Love Unanswered: A Hesitation

Song of Songs 5:2-8
“Love Unanswered:  A Hesistation”

Daily we are faced with choices and decisions we would rather not have to face, we are asked to step out and do things that are beyond us.  In faith, often times, it is no different than any other aspect of life.  We are constantly being stretched by our Lord to do more and more and the asking doesn’t lessen the closer our hearts move to our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.  The reality is that often times it is that first step that is the hardest.  As we find earlier in the chapters of the Song of Songs is the desire that our Lord Jesus Christ has to be intimate with us.  He desires a relationship that is all enveloping and He swoons when we give fully of ourselves over to Him.  Once we enter into this intimate love He desires of us at all times, but often we hold back.  We hold back of ourselves as He comes and asks us to let Him enter.  He waits outside for us, but many times there are things that we place that prevent us from coming wholly to Him.  Obstacles in our lives that stand before us, feeling unworthy and unacceptable, preventing us from fully enjoying the blessings and the love that He desires to pour out on us.  The Holy Kisses that he continually offers up to us.  It is the image seen in Revelation 3:20 of Jesus standing outside knocking, waiting for us to allow Him to enter.
We see the Bride in these verses preventing her self from going to Him, the Bridegroom, because she does not want to have to cover her self or put on her slippers.  She hesitates and when finally she relents and opens the door we find that the Bridegroom has left.  She searches for the Bridegroom in the streets and does not find Him and she is beaten and stripped of her cloak and no one will help her.  The world in our desires to fit in can seem to be against us when we come to Christ, but the world gives us false ideas of what it means to be spiritually whole.   They beat down our hearts and our value and in our weakness will try and prevent us from giving our hearts wholly to Christ.  Some of you hearing this may not be in relationship with Christ or are holding back because you are afraid of what others may think.  You may be fearful of how your past may be judged or that you may lose some of the friends that you have had, but what Christ has to offer is so much better, the promise is greater than anything the world can provide.  The promises of this world bring nothing but pain and emptiness.  We are promised nothing but death and destruction in this world, however in Christ Jesus we are given the gift of eternal life and His love being poured down on us.  He will cover us in His cloak and protect us from those that wish to harm us.  We just need to be willing to give Him full access in our lives.
